Oso Oso + Prince Daddy & The Hyena
Oso Oso + Prince Daddy & The Hyena @ Vessel 11
Admission: € 11.50 (including service costs)
Tonight in the V11: an evening of genuine powerpunk and indie rock from American soil.
There is never a shortage of inspiration at Prince Daddy & The Hyena. The punkanthems of the band from Albany capture the power and energy of the collective above the individual. That said: second album Cosmic Thrill Seekers comes completely from the front of Kory Gregory. It has become an ambitious album with three chapters, where Gregory draws inspiration from The Wizard Of Oz to express his mental health problems. In the hands of most bands, something like that may sound pretentious, but Prince Daddy & The Hyenas only brings it with unrestrained joy of life and honesty.
Oso Oso is the project of musician Jade Lilitri. Lilitri did what so many talented musicians do nowadays to be heard: plumb your record at Bandcamp in one go for the world to devour, for free and for nothing. Debut the yunahon mixtape – a collection of punksongs with gritty bedroom aesthetics – came on the radar of the label Triple Crown, and so happened. With now the second album Real Stories Of People Who Child Of Look Like Monsters as a feat, Oso Oso’s status as an established name is virtually sealed. Pitchfork praises Lilitri as a songwriter who is both a student and a fan of his greatest sources of inspiration, and therefore knows how to hit the right note.
