Alex Simu plays in various ensembles, including the successful Arifa, which sheds new light on age-old music from the Middle East and the Balkans. With Echoes or Enescu, he looks again towards the East, with a special tribute to composer George Enescu.
The international Alex Simu Quintet pays tribute to George Enescu. In a special jazz setting, the Enescu suites are given a new shape. The folkloric themes within Enescu’s music form the starting point for open conversations / improvisations between the musicians. The impressionistic harmonies within Enescu’s compositions offer many possibilities for translating them into contemporary jazz interpretations and starting points for improvisation themes.
